What is the tote?
The tote is a dividend paid out from a betting pool. Instead of offering fixed odds like traditional bookmakers, payouts are calculated after the off, when the betting pool is closed.
Where can I find the Tote?
From our Exchange, if you navigate to Horse Racing you will find Tote at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side of the page.
You can also access it from this link: http://tote.betfair.com/
Unfortunately, the tote is not available via Mobile.
What types of bets can I place?
When can I bet on the tote?
Placepot, Jackpot, Quadpot and Scoop6 require a bet to be struck before the first race at the meeting begins. E.G, a Placepot at Ascot must be placed before the first race at Ascot begins. Scoop6 races will vary from week to week.
Win, place exacta and trifecta bets must be placed before the race in question begins.
Can I place an each-way bet on the tote?
Yes, this would consist of one win bet and one place bet. The minimum stake on both is £2.
What is the minimum stake?
How is a place bet settled?
Places are determined by the number of runners in each race.
What happens if my horse is a non-runner?
If your selection is withdrawn, you will automatically be allocated the SP favourite. If there are joint or co-favourites, the lowest saddlecloth number of the co-favourites on the race card will be selected. Should the favourite be withdrawn before coming under Starters Orders and too late for a new favourite to be made, the horse returned at the next shortest price will be taken. Where two or more horses are returned at the next shortest price, the one with the lowest racecard number will be taken. If no Starting Price is returned the first actual runner quoted in the Racing Post betting forecast will be taken.
