What is Match Ups?
Match Ups is a brand new way to bet, allowing you to pit players against each other for goals, shots, fouls and more.
Who can take part?
The product is available for new and existing customers, aged 18 or over, with registered Betfair accounts in the following countries: United Kingdom and Rep of Ireland.
Where can I find Match Ups?
When Match Ups are available, they can be located on the match event header next to the popular tab, as seen in the image below...
How does Match Ups work?
Match Ups is a Player vs Player Bet that lets you put two players against each other based on a specific outcome, such as - Player A will have more shots on goal than Player B.
To place a match ups bet scroll down to find your desired outcome and choose your players using the player switcher icon. Once you've chosen your players the odds will be calculated to add to betslip.
Can I place a multiple?
Yes, multiples are now available within Match Ups!
Just add more than one selection to your betslip and the odds of your multiple will be calculated.
Please note: Match Ups selections can only be combined with other match ups selections from within the same event, and not with Bet Builders or Accas.
What data will you use?
We use Opta Stats as our source of data to settle bets. To find out more about Opta Football Statistics Definitions, see our article here.
When can I place my bet?
Match Ups are available 48 hours before kick-off.
What happens if my player doesn't start?
If any player in your Match Ups bet doesn't start then your bet will be voided and your money returned back to your wallet.
What happens if my Match Ups bet ends in a draw?
A draw would result in a losing selection, as the chosen player has to have more shots/fouls/goals than the opponent.
For example, if Player A and Player B both score the same number of goals there is no winner. We use Opta Stats as our source of data to settle bets.
Can I Cash Out a Match Ups bet?

Can I bet in-play?
Currently there is no in-play betting.
What is the minimum staking requirement?
Minimum staking requirements are: 0.10£/euro (as in our sportsbook)
Will my bet be void if a player doesn't start the match?
All bets on Match Ups will be voided at kick-off if any player included in the bet doesn't start the match - i.e. bets on players that start on the bench will be voided as well.
The outcome of your Match-Up bets will be displayed using the same WON, LOST, or VOID indicators as those used across our Sportsbook, aligned with the product catalogue. Here's how it works:
Example:
- Match: Home Team (Team A) vs. Away Team (Team B)
- Your Bet: Team A to win
- Result: Team A wins 1-0
Outcome:
- The bet is settled as WON - the signpost will display WON.
- If the bet is later resettled as VOID (e.g., due to specific circumstances), the signpost may still display WON.
Lineup Announcements
As soon as possible after the starting lineup is announced, the customer will only be shown a list of available players (excluding goalkeepers) for each team that compose the starting lineup - to avoid the selection of a player that doesn't start the match, and consequently have the bet voided.
When will bets be resulted?
Bets will be settled as soon as possible after the bet is either won or lost.
Player Set up - What if my player becomes suspended?
If a player is suspended, it will become unavailable from that point onwards - i.e. you won't be able to place bets with that player from that point onwards.
All bets placed prior to the suspension will still be valid.
Do own goals count?
No, own goals do not count toward a players goals scored in a match.
What Outcomes are available for this product?
The following Outcomes are available for this product, which are subject to availability and change:
- Shots - You can bet on the number of times a player will shoot on target/shoot.
- Shots On Target - You can bet on the number of times a player will shoot on target/shoot.
- Goals - You can bet on the number of times a player will score.
- Fouls Won - You can bet on the number of fouls won by a player.
- Fouls Committed - You can bet on the number of fouls committed by a player.
- Assists - You can bet on the number of times a player will assist a goal.
Where can I find my bet once placed?
Match Ups bets that are settled and in your transaction history will appear the same as other settled betting types.
Stats Set Up
Historical (i.e. pre-match) player stats shown when selecting the players are based on the average player values from the start of the relevant competition (i.e. Premier League or Champions League).
If it's the:
- 1st Match of the Competition: No player stats will be available
- 2nd Match of the Competition: Player stats based only on the 1st match of the current season (full-time)
- 3rd Match of the Competition: Average values for player stats based only on the previous events of the current season (full-time)

What else do I need to know?
Resettlements
Outcomes are generally settled as soon as possible after the end of the event in question. Betfair may settle (or part-settle) some outcomes before the official result is declared (or may increase a customer's "available to bet" balance by the minimum potential winnings of that customer on a given outcome) purely as a customer service benefit.
However, Betfair reserves the right to amend the settlement of the market if:
- The official result is different to the result on which Betfair initially settled the outcome; or
- If the outcome is eventually voided (e.g. for an abandoned event).
Betfair reserves the right to reverse the settlement of an outcome if an outcome is settled in error (for example, a human or technical error).
If Betfair resettles an, this may lead to amendments being made to a customer's balance to reflect changes in outcome settlement.
Void Bets
All bets on Match Ups will be voided at kick-off if any player included in the bet doesn't start the match - i.e. bets on players that start on the bench will be voided as well.
The outcome of your Match-Up bets will be displayed using the same WON, LOST, or VOID indicators as those used across our Sportsbook, aligned with the product catalogue.
Player Set up
Any player not included in the matchday squad will become unavailable as soon as possible after Betfair is aware of it I (i.e. customers won't be able to place bets with that player from that point onwards).
All bets on Match Ups will be voided at kick-off if any player included in the bet doesn't start the match (i.e. bets on players that start on the bench will be voided as well).
Max Payout
Max Payout of 100k£/euro per bet.
Terms & Conditions
- Product applies to pre-play bets only
- Outcomes are only available for the first half, or full-time (not 2nd half)
- Cashout is currently not available
- Offer applies to 90 mins betting only, which includes injury time added on by referee for stoppages
- Extra time is not included
- The acceptance of Odds movements in your account settings won't apply for Match Up bets
- Product only available within 48 hours of the event start time
- Web only
- Valid on selected leagues and outcomes only
