Betfair offers you handicap betting in different sports and markets through its Sportsbook. These bets don’t cover Asian handicap betting modality (bets that don’t offer the ‘tie’ selection as an event result).
The handicap betting markets that you can find in different sports (such as football, basketball, tennis, etc), offer a regular handicap way to bet in which you can add or deduct an specific quantity to the final amount of goals, baskets, tennis games…
Football handicap betting example. ‘Match Result’ market
- When you select ‘Ac Milan’ -1 Goals’, you’re considering that AC Milan will win the match once you’ll have deducted 1 goal to its final amount of scored goals in the match
- Therefore, if AC Milan doesn’t score or only scores 1 goal, your bet will be a losing one, as you need to deduct one goal due to the handicap selection you’ve chosen. Due to that, the final result (with the handicap applied) would be AC Milan -1 or 0 goals. Both insufficient results to win a match (AC Milan would get, at least, a draw against Borussia but Milan could never win the match)
- If Milan wins with 1 goal ahead against Borussia (i.e. 2-1, 3-2, 4-3, etc), the bet would be a losing one too, because when you deduct the goal selected in the handicap, the final result would be a tie
- So, for your selection to win, AC Milan would need to win the match with, at least, 2 goals difference in the real result. Ex: 2-0, 3-1, 4-2, etc.
- The same would apply for the rest of selections, including the draw. You need to add or deduct the selected handicap amount and the result after this operation must match with your selection. I.e.: If you pick ‘Handicap Draw +2 goals’, your final result (after you’ve applied the handicap), needs to be a draw and the real match result should be something that make real the draw after the handicap application: 0-2, 2-0, 1-3, 3-1, 2-4, 4-2, etc.
Basketball Handicap betting example. ‘Handicap Betting’ market
- When you pick the selection ‘Spain U20 -3,5’, you’re expecting that Spain wins the match even when you deduct -3,5 points to the final amount of scored points by Spain in the match
- If the match finishes with a score of 88-85, your bet will be a losing one as the selected handicap (-3,5 points) will convert the final result in a score of 84,5 – 85. Thus, the Serbian selection would be the winning one
- For your bet to be a winning one, the Spanish squad need to finish the match 4 points over Serbia, at least
Tennis Handicap betting example. ‘Handicap Set’ market
- When you select ‘P Tig +1,5’ selection, you’re considering that P Tig will win the match once you’ve added +1,5 sets to the final match result
- If the match finishes with a 3 – 2 result in which A Zaja wins, your bet will be a winning one because the selected hándicap (+1,5 points) will change the final score for 3 – 3,5 sets. As a result of this, P Tig would win the match
- For your bet to be a winning one, the match would need to finish with a P Tig victory or with an A Zaja victory but, in this case, only with 1 set difference. So, 0-2, 1-2 or 2-1
- If A Zaja wins the match by 2-0, you’ll lose the bet
Hockey Handicap betting example. ‘Handicap Set market
- When you pick the selection ‘Rogle BK +1,5’, you’re thinking that Rogle BK team will win the match once you’ve added 1,5 goals to the final match result, on top of the goals they’ve scored
- If A Zaja wins the match by 2-0, you’ll lose the bet
- If the match finishes with a score of 5 – 3, with a Malmo Redhawks victory, your bet will be a losing one because the selected handicap (+1,5 goals) will convert the final score in 5 – 4,5 goals and Malmo would still be the winner
- If A Zaja wins the match by 2-0, you’ll lose the bet
- For your bet to win, the match would need to finish with a Rogle BK victory or with a Malmo Redhawks victory but only with 1 goal difference
- If A Zaja wins the match by 2-0, you’ll lose the bet
- For any other result, as Rogle BK losing for more than 2 goals, your bet will be a losing one
- If A Zaja wins the match by 2-0, you’ll lose the bet
