What is the Tote?
The tote is a dividend paid out from a betting pool (customers who bet on the tote have their stakes added together to form the prize pool). Instead of offering fixed odds like traditional bookmakers, payouts are calculated after the off, when the betting pool is closed.
Where can I find the Tote?
From our Exchange, if you navigate to Horse Racing you will find Tote at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side of the page
You can also access it from this link: http://tote.betfair.com/
For desktop only, it can also be found on sportsbook > Horse Racing > More (2) > Tote
Unfortunately, the tote is not available via Mobile.
What types of bets can I place?
Totewin – The easiest bet to place, simply pick the horse that you think will win the race
Toteexacta – Also known as a forecast, pick the winner and second place in the right order. A quick and easy bet with good payouts on the less expected results.
Totejackpot – Every day except Saturday at selected meetings. Make a selection in each of the first six races. Regular rollovers mean that the jackpot can get big, quickly!
Totequadpot – Like the placepot, but over four races (usually races three to six). Because it’s fewer races, the payouts are smaller but Quadpots can still reach sizeable sums.
Toteplace – The aim of the place bet is to select a horse to be placed in the race. This is a good bet when you fancy a horse to do well but think it is unlikely to win the race.
Totetrifecta – Predict 1st, 2nd or 3rd in races with eight or more runners. Harder to predict than the Exacta, but bigger winnings if you get it right!
Toteplacepot – Every day at every British race meeting. Pick six placed horses in six races. It’s a great, simple way to get a piece of the racing action throughout the week.
Toteswinger – Pick 2 horses to come 1st, 2nd or 3rd. This bet gives three chances to win and you don’t necessarily have to pick the winner
Totescoop6 – try to pick the winners of six selected races every Saturday. Scoop 6 winners often walk away with over half a million pounds!
Win, place exacta and trifecta bets must be placed before the race in question begins.
Can I place an each-way bet on the tote?
Yes, this would consist of one win bet and one place bet. The minimum stake on both is £2.
What is the minimum stake?
How is a place bet settled?
Places are determined by the number of runners in each race.
What happens if my horse is a non-runner?
If your selection is withdrawn, you will automatically be allocated the SP favourite. If there are joint or co-favourites, the lowest saddlecloth number of the co-favourites on the race card will be selected. Should the favourite be withdrawn before coming under Starters Orders and too late for a new favourite to be made, the horse returned at the next shortest price will be taken. Where two or more horses are returned at the next shortest price, the one with the lowest racecard number will be taken. If no Starting Price is returned the first actual runner quoted in the Racing Post betting forecast will be taken.
