Exchange: Best Price Execution?

What is Best Price Execution?

The Best Price Execution feature enables customers to get matched at the best available odds on the Exchange.

With the Best Price Execution feature switched on, if better odds are available, or become available, after you have placed your bet request, your bet will automatically be matched at the improved odds. This normally occurs in two ways:

  • Where a customer has entered a bet but, before it is confirmed, better odds become available. A customer will always get the best odds available at the time of the bet being matched;
  • If the best odds available are offered at a smaller stake than the customer’s desired size of stake, while the second best odds are available at a larger stake. In such circumstances, if a customer enters the required odds as the second best odds, this will have the effect of automatically matching part of his bet at the available best odds and the remainder of the bet at the second best odds.

However, if the Best Price Execution feature is switched off, your bet will not be matched if better odds are available, or become available, after you have placed your bet request.  Instead your bet request will lapse and you will be required to resubmit your bet at the improved odds.

How does Best Price Execution work?

  • When Best Price Execution is enabled: if better odds are available, or become available, after you have placed your bet but before it is matched, your bet will be matched at the improved odds.

    In the example below, the customer places a back bet on Chelsea at odds of 1.25, when odds of 1.28 are available. Best Price Execution would mean that this bet would be matched at the best available odds of 1.28.

  • When Best Price Execution is not enabled: if better odds are available, or become available, after you have placed your bet but before it is matched, your bet will lapse and it will not be matched. You will then have to resubmit your bet at the odds that are currently available.

What will happen if the odds worsen after I have placed my bet, but before my bet is matched?

Your bet will never be matched at worse odds than those you have requested.
One of the following things will happen when you place your bet and the odds worsen:

  • Your bet will initially be unmatched, however it may subsequently be matched at the odds you requested, if those odds become available again after you have placed your bet; or
  • Your bet will remain unmatched if odds do not become available that are at least equal to those you requested.

How do I switch “Best Price Execution” on or off?

The Best Price Execution feature is switched on by default for all customers and this is Betfair’s recommended setting. However, if you are resident in the UK and if you would  would like to disable the Best Price Execution feature, there is a toggle that allows you to switch it off at any time.

  • On desktop, you can find the toggle by navigating to the “Betting” tab from the “Settings” menu.
  • On mobile, you can find the toggle by going to “Settings” from the A-Z menu and then selecting “Best Price Execution”.
