Exchange Games: What is minimal risk wagering?

Activity which falls within one or more of the definitions below:

  • Activity which Betfair believes to be collusive, for example where two or more players agree to place bets to offset each other’s' risk.
  • Backing and laying in the same market at the same odds, backing and laying a selection or combination of selections with a maximum risk of less than 1.6, backing all the selections in a market, or laying all the selections in a market.
  • Backing at odds of 1.6 or less, or laying at odds of 100 or greater.

If you back and lay multiple selections in the same market at the same time, such that your net risk is less than 1.6, we regard this as “minimal risk wagering and your bet will not be counted towards this promotion.

For example, if you back a selection or combination of selections for £100 at an average price of 1.75, and then lay the same selection or combination of selections for £100 at an average price of 1.77. In this example, the maximum risk is £2 with an exposure of £177 and therefore the maximum risk equates to 1.1%.
